My Letter to you, Logan Paul
This is my letter to you, Logan Paul. My name is Meagan Rose and I am a 23-year-old Lifestyle Blogger. Recently, I came across a video of yours on social media that hits close to home since I am someone who struggles with depression. In your video you visit Aokigahara, a forest in Japan known as the “suicide forest” which includes footage of a suicide victim with minimal blurring. What I concluded is you need a reality check.
The video you created is inhumane and disrespectful. My question to you is what were your intentions when creating this? You advocate you create videos to “entertain” but it is hard to believe someone who knowingly has an influence on millions of others, including teenagers, would think to create an insensitive video like you did. Did you know suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year olds? And for every suicide, 25 people attempt? Let that sink in.
Let your reality check be this; every choice you make (and everyone else in the world) comes with a consequence. Sometimes, the choices you make come with an unwanted consequence and the harsh truth is you have to live with them. I don’t believe you feel you made a “mistake” when creating and posting your disgraceful video. I think you made a choice, with an expectation, and it came with unwanted consequence. For this, I feel sorry for you. I’m sorry that you’ve been given a platform that you don’t know how to treat with love and grace and instead, used it in an ignorant way.
Lastly, I feel even more sorrow for the people in the world you hurt from the video. The people on this earth should be treated with love and respect. Nothing about your post was creating awareness for suicide and suicide prevention. There are plenty of positive ways to do so without trying to get an extra view on YouTube. I hope this is a lesson learned for you.
