I don't know where to begin with this post because I am SO excited to share this hidden gem with you! I'm shamefully bias when it comes to Sarasota, Florida because it was my first home away from Michigan. However, I truly do believe it is a location that SCREAMS "VISIT ME"!
Sarasota is located on the West Coast of Florida. It's about an hour south of Tampa and four hours northwest of Miami.
Sarasota is a good size city and like most cities, the downtown is where the most action is. The downtown is full of restaurants, shopping, and theaters that overlook the Sarasota Bay which is surprisingly considered to be a lagoon. This is a great place to go for a morning jog or brisk walk. I promise there's plenty to see!
A quick zoom over the 'John Ringling Causeway' (named after John Ringling who is one of the founders of the Ringling Brothers Circus) and you'll arrive at the beautiful beaches that overlook the Gulf Coast of Mexico.
Lido Key beach is the closest public beach to downtown Sarasota. While no beach in Florida compares to 'Siesta Key's' "powder sugar" like sand, Lido Key comes pretty darn close as I used to walk on this beach as often as I could when I lived there.
Whether you're in the mood for a cheeseboard, seafood, in need of a yummy brunch spot, or just wanting some delicious dessert, Sarasota's food scene is to DIE for. Check out the list below for a few of my favorite spots you must try when you visit Sarasota! Ps I have so many more recommendations but will save those for a later date. MY SARASOTA FOOD RECCOMENDATIONS:
So the next time you're in the mood for a weekend getaway or planning your post pandemic vacation, I would highly recommend Sarasota, Florida. And you MUST let me know what you think of it after you visit! Sending you all the much needed sunshine today during this winter season!
